Third harmonic generation from collective modes in disordered superconductors

چکیده
The observation of third-harmonic generation (THG) in superconductors suggests that strong terahertz fields provide a preferential tool to excite collective excitations, e.g., the Higgs mode, which remain elusive ordinary spectroscopy. From theoretical point view, disorder effects must be included. Here, authors show by treating nonperturbatively THG is strongly enhanced disorder, and phase charge fluctuations, neglected so far, give substantial contribution it. In addition, computed polarization dependence signal within realistic band structures challenges interpretation recent experiments cuprates.

Collective Modes in High-Temperature Superconductors
The role of collective modes in various experiments on the cuprates is investigated. We calculate the neutron scattering, photoemission (ARPES), and Raman scattering intensities below Tc within the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approximation for the two-dimensional Hubbard model. It is shown that the large peak in the dynamical spin susceptibility arises from a weakly damped spin-density-wave col...

Cancer cell invasion is an adaptive process based on cell-intrinsic properties to migrate individually or collectively, and their adaptation to encountered tissue structure acting as barrier or providing guidance. Whereas molecular and physical mechanisms of cancer invasion are well-studied in 3D in vitro models, their topographic relevance, classification and validation toward interstitial tis...
متن کاملDAMPING OF COLLECTIVE MODES AND QUASIPARTICLES IN d-WAVE SUPERCONDUCTORS
The two-dimensional d-wave superconducting state of the high temperature superconductors has a number of different elementary excitations: the spin-singlet Cooper pairs, the spin S = 1/2 fermionic quasiparticles, and a bosonic S = 1 resonant collective mode, φα, at the antiferromagnetic wavevector. Although the φα quanta are strongly coupled to the gapped quasiparticles near the (π, 0), (0, π) ...
متن کاملQuantum Phase Transitions and Collective Modes in d-wave Superconductors
Fluctuations near second-order quantum phase transitions in d-wave superconductors can cause strong damping of fermionic excitations, as observed in photoemission experiments. The damping of the gapless nodal quasiparticles can arise naturally in the quantum-critical region of a transition with an additional spin-singlet, zero momentum order parameter; we argue that the transition to a dx2−y2 +...
متن کاملThird-harmonic generation via broadband cascading in disordered quadratic nonlinear media.
We study parametric frequency conversion in quadratic nonlinear media with disordered ferroelectric domains. We demonstrate that disorder allows realizing broadband third-harmonic generation via cascading of two second-order quasi-phase matched nonlinear processes. We analyze both spatial and polarization properties of the emitted radiation and find the results in agreement with our theoretical...
